Durdan's Park Primary School

A high – quality science education provides the foundation for understanding the world through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all pupils should be taught essential aspects of knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. Through building up a body of key fundamental knowledge and concepts, pupils should be encouraged to become critical and analytical thinkers questioning concepts around them and linking their understanding to the wider world, mainly through the impact of humans on the natural world and climate change.

At Durdan’s Park we aim to develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines, as well as develop an understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that helps children to answer scientific questions about the world around them. We also aim to equip pupils with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications for science, today and for the future.

Through the school’s overall curriculum aim, we aspire to make the children critical and analytical thinkers by seeking answers to questions through collecting, analyzing and presenting data and over time engage in more meaningful sophisticated discussion of experimental design and control.
